Monet to Matisse: Defying Tradition traces a ground-breaking era in art history through iconic works by the most influential European and American artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Exclusive to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the exhibition features fifty-seven masterworks from the Toledo Museum of Art’s world-renowned collection.It tells the story of artists defying tradition and transforming modern art, from Impressionism to Cubism and Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism.

Featured artists include Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Helen Frankenthaler, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh and James McNeill Whistler.
